Best Starts for KIDS

In August 2021, voters in King County, WA, approved KC Prop 1, reauthorizing and increasing the property tax that funds the Best Starts for Kids program. The tax levy has supported more than 500,000 children and families since voters originally passed it in 2015. The measure passed with nearly 63% support and authorizes a six-year property tax of $0.19 per $1,000 of assessed value. The levy will raise around $872 million over six years to be spent on a range of child care, prenatal and newborn family services, and youth development programs.
